Africa Internet Governance Forum 2022

The COVID-19 pandemic has catapulted the adoption of ICT tools and platforms for use in a variety of disciplines ranging from education, social affairs, and economic activities aimed at boosting trade and development of global economies even amidst the pandemic.
Whilst the adoption of the use of ICT platforms has been on a record pace, certain challenges have also come up which seriously hinder the adoption of these technologies. For example, in Uganda, certain online platforms like social media which would otherwise be used to boost trade and economic development are still blocked and furthermore, the cost of internet connectivity is still very high based on recent statistics which is readily available on the internet. New unfair taxes like the 16% tax added on the purchase of data bundles (MBs) has seriously hindered the adoption of ICT platforms that really on internet access because ordinary Ugandans are not in a position to afford data purchase.
Nevertheless, many businesses across the globe especially in Africa have started moving away from transacting business at physical premises and have embraced online transactions to stay afloat during/after the pandemic and boost their sales and revenues. Therefore, we would like to use this session as an opportunity to create awareness of the opportunities ICT has brought the business Globally.
Objectives of the Session:

1. To transform the social-economic status of the businesses in African communities using ICT
2. To advocate for policymakers to consider reversing a ban on certain digital platforms.
3. To build the capacity of Small and Medium-Sized enterprises to adopt ICT for increased sales and revenue projections.
